On 1 February 2008, pupils learnt what a fable is. I showed them a website (http://www.aesops-fables.org.uk/) where pupils learnt what a fable is. They read about the fable on the Ant and the Dove and other fables too. Using the animals figurines they had brought to school, pupils used them as the characters for their fable.
I did a drama using a bee, zebra and lion. The zebra rescused the bee when the bee was blown into the river from a strong gust of wind. One day, when a lion was able to attack the zebra, the bee bit the lion. The lion roared in pain. The zebra heard the cries of the lion and escaped. The moral of the story is "little friends prove great friends". Pupils also learn about another moral "it is important to save up for necessity". This story is about how a lazy grasshopper and the hardworking ant. Unlike the hardworking ant, the lazy grasshopper refused to find food during winter. When winter came, the grasshopper had nothing to eat and soon died.
As a group, they planned a their narrative using a story-map. After that, they wrote the narrative individually.
